KOBERT

INGRID LODE – VOCAL
ERIK NYLANDER – DRUMS
DANIEL FORMO – ORGAN

The musicians in Kobert are still young, but yet they have already developed a voice of their own – neither traditional swinging jazz nor catchy pop music, but residing somewhere in the landscape in between - or rather beyond - that. Vocalist Ingrid Lode deliver lyrics by the 19th century poet Emily Dickinson, organist Daniel Formo and drummer Erik Nylander weaves a rich texture around this, and together Kobert creates their own musical universe distinguished by melodious composition and exploring improvisation.

INGRID LODE (born 1982) is currently completing her last year of jazz studies at the Music Conservatory of Trondheim, Norway. In addition to Kobert, she sings and composes for her own quartet, “The Eyewaterlillies”, and is also part of the modern a cappella ensemble “Trondheim Voices”. She is known for her strong presence and whole-hearted performance on stage, once dubbed a “vocal bomb” by a journalist.

ERIK NYLANDER (born 1981) is also at his last year of jazz studies in Trondheim. A very sought-after drummer, Erik has come to play all sorts of music with numerous bands in Norway. Plays regularly in the trio of violinist Ola Kvernberg.

DANIEL FORMO (born 1978) started out on the piano, but bought an hammond organ in his first year of studies in lack of any bass players. Plays now both instruments in various bands, perhaps most notably besides “Kobert” is “Solid!”, an organ-trio with guitarist Bjørn Vidar Solli and drummer Håkon Mjåset Johansen.

Quotes:

“  (…) this abstract jazz trio was fronted by a very unusual scatting stylist, flitting around in front of a pared-down backing band of just a Hammond organ and an array of drums. She's surely set for stardom.” – Martin Longley, The Independent

”Daring, original and impudent at the same time.” – Roald Helgheim, Dagsavisen

”There is no doubt that Kobert has a bright future”. – Einar Engelstad, Bergens Tidende

”It is quiet and loud at the same time. And it is incredibly beautiful, even though the musicians don’t try to be too kind to the audience at all. There are no cheap or flimsy solutions. It is new and at the same time easily accessible.” – Ola Nøst, Romsdals Budstikke

”Modern music can be many a thing, it can for instanse be Kobert. (…) With no respect for musical conventions, they serve us a hotchpotch of grooves, sounds and improvisation. (…) they manage to create their own little world on the side of everybody else”.  – Program note for the ”Nattjazz” in Bergen
